Omer Tillman Bethel, 88, of Anderson, Mo., departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at his home after a sudden illness. He entered this life on Nov.
18, 1928, in Anderson, one of two children born to the late Hoyt and Stella (Schneider) Bethel.
He was a lifelong resident of Anderson. On Dec. 23, 1947, in Anderson, he was united in marriage to Frances Jewell Rogers and to this union five children were born. For several years he was employed by NewMac Electric, retiring as Chief Engineer. After retiring, he continued to farm, later purchasing a bulldozer and joining his son Dennis in the operation of Bethel Backhoe and Dump Truck Service. He enjoyed farming, hunting and spending time in his garden. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Pineville American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Bethel on May 12, 2006; and two children, Dennis Bethel and Carol Peschang.
He is survived by his three children, Kathy Palmer and husband, Glen, of St. James, Mo., Keith Bethel of Fair Grove, Mo., and Ed Bethel and wife, Renee, of Anderson; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a sister, Marcella Farrah of Mexico, Mo.; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the Tracy Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers were Richard Bethel, Wes Bethel, Joe Bethel, Dan Bethel, Randy Bethel and Sean Wilson. The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to the Pineville American Legion c/o of the funeral home.
