Eighth Grade Takes Cham­pi­onship With 42 Runs

The McDon­ald County eighth-grade base­ball team scored 42 runs in three games, in­clud­ing 17 in the cham­pi­onship game, to win last week’s Grove Ju­nior High Base­ball Tour­na­ment.

McDon­ald County pounded out 18 hits in its 17-1 win over Jay in the cham­pi­onship game. Dy­lan Igi­so­mar, Levi Helm and Lee Sohse all had three hits to lead McDon­ald. Levi Mal­one, Cole Mar­tin, Ju­nior Eliam and Bran­don Arm­strong added two hits each.

Bo Leach started and went two in­nings to get the win. Levi Mal­one worked one in­ning of re­lief.

McDon­ald County opened the tour­na­ment with an 8-0 win over Prov­i­dence be­hind the pitch­ing of Sohse. The hard-throw­ing right-han­der went the dis­tance in the four-in­ning game.

Igi­so­mar and Mar­tin led the of­fense with three hits each. Mal­one, Helm and Arm­strong added one hit each.

McDon­ald County claimed a 17-5 win over Neosho in the semi­fi­nals. Wy­att Jor­dan went three in­nings for the win with one in­ning of re­lief from Eli Jack­son.

Matthew Mora had four hits while Mal­one, Helm, Mar­tin and Sohse had two each to lead the of­fense, Igi­so­mar, Leach and Eliam had one hit each.

Sev­enth Grade

The McDon­ald County sev­enth grade filled in the tour­na­ment when an eighth­grade team dropped out. McDon­ald County opened with a 17-10 loss to Jay in six in­nings. We­ston Gor­don went three and two-thirds in­nings fol­lowed by Fis­cher Sanny and Brax­ton Spears.

Gor­don had three hits, while Sammy Heruth, Sanny, Isaac Behm and Coty Du­mond had one hit each.

Neosho de­feated the Mus­tangs 4-1 in the con­so­la­tion bracket. Behm pitched the first three in­nings, fol­lowed by Jack­son Par­nell, Ethan Berk­shire and Du­mond.

Heruth, Gor­don, Behm, Du­mond and Par­nell had one hit each to lead the of­fense.

Miller

McDon­ald County claimed a 14-4 win over Miller on April 14 at MCHS. Bran­don Arm­strong went two in­nings for the win, while Mal­one worked the fi­nal in­ning.

Sohse had three hits, while Bray­den Burt, Helm and Mar­tin had two each for McDon­ald County. Mora, Arm­strong and Wy­att Jor­dan all had one hit.

The sev­enth grade claimed a 4-3 win over Miller. Brax­ton Spears started and went an in­ning and two-thirds be­fore Blaine Or­tiz came on to get the win with an in­ning and a third of re­lief.

Heruth had two hits, while Spears, We­ston, Gor­don, Behm, Ja­cob Gor­don and Kea­gan Gib­son had one hit each.

McDon­ald County was sched­uled to host Wyan­dotte on April 16 be­fore fac­ing Fayetteville New School on April 20 in Fayetteville.
