Addiction Recovery Is On The Horizon

MidWeek (Hawaii) - - Front Page - By Mark Turansky (CSAC), executive director of New Horizons Counseling

There is a humble little program offered several times a year on the North Shore, where intriguing and potentially life-changing events take place.

I offer a unique recovery program called “Treatment Camp” for those struggling with the slavery of addictive behavior.

In 2012, I released the book Figure it, Face it & Fix it: Your surprising solution to addiction and substance abuse, where the success principles of the New Horizons approach and mission are revealed. New Horizons works with about 150 people each year to help them with various life challenges.

In a world where we expect certain outcomes based on logic, and are often hard-pressed to be convinced of new ideas, counterintuitive programs like New Horizons are both surprising and inspiring.

The New Horizons approach does indeed follow logical lines of thought and reason, based on cognitive nutshell, means if you change your thinking you can change your behavior.

Treatment Camp participants also can take advantage of New Horizons’ unlimited lifetime follow-up program. Recovery is a lifetime journey, and the camp launches that journey in a powerful way. However, the momentum gained at camp needs to be sustained through group support and continued personal growth. New Horizons provides each client that opportunity.

Kailani came to camp with a severe meth addiction.

“This was a life-changing experience that taught me new skills and techniques for dealing with life’s issues and reminded me of several I had forgotten, 100 percent positive in its approach,” she says. “You start to feel better the moment you get through the would recommend this camp to others.”

The next Treatment Camp runs Oct. 9-13. The greatest financial need is for donors to offset camp tuition costs. Tax-deductible donations will go toward camp scholarships.

New Horizons Counseling helps patients change their thinking to change their behavior, and offers a lifetime follow-up program to help with recovery.
