Good Eats On New Farm Tours

Haleiwa Farm­ers’ Mar­ket North Shore Farm Tours be­gin this month by com­bin­ing vis­its to four farms with a de­li­cious lunch plucked fresh from the fields. The guided tours in­clude talks with the farm­ers, crop tours and a taste of their bounty.

The all-day ex­pe­ri­ence, de­signed to cre­ate a deeper ap­pre­ci­a­tion of ded­i­cated lo­cal farm­ers, is set for 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 and 26.

The Sept. 12 tour vis­its Wa­ialua Es­tate Cof­fee, Twin Bridge Farms, North Shore Cat­tle Com­pany and Mays Hy­dro­ponic Let­tuce. Lunch will be served on the moun­tain at North Shore Cat­tle Co., pre­pared by ranch owner Ryan Lum. On the menu are grass-fed burg­ers, fresh grilled as­para­gus, pep­pers, onions, squash and egg­plant, salad with pa­paya dress­ing and a cof­fee dessert.

The Sept. 26 tour stops at Sea As­para­gus Marine Agri­fu­ture, Tin Roof Ranch, Poamoho Or­ganic Pro­duce and Wa­ialua Es­tate Ca­cao. Tin Roof Ranch of­fers a view into its chicken and egg op­er­a­tion. North Shore caterer Brigitte Moss will serve lunch over­look­ing the Poamoho Or­ganic fruit or­chards. The menu has Niçoise salad, panseared ahi, sea as­para­gus, hard-boiled eggs, green beans, toma­toes, pota­toes and fresh pars­ley, a bread­fruit salad, ar­ti­san bread and or­ganic fruit dessert with chocolate sauce.

Pas­sen­gers are asked to meet at 8:45 a.m. at Haleiwa Farm­ers’ Mar­ket site (Kame­hameha High­way and Leong By­pass Road) to board the 30-seat bus. Cost per tour is $85 per per­son.
