Track Star Turns Race Di­rec­tor For Sr. Project

Mililani High se­nior and cross-coun­try cham­pion Kristin Ali Keith is be­hind the Fam­ily Ties 5K Race set for 7 a.m. Sun­day, start­ing and end­ing at the school.

The race, which is her se­nior project to earn an hon­ors diploma, will ben­e­fit dis­abled vet­er­ans.

Plans for the race are go­ing well, Keith said, with do­na­tions and en­tries com­ing in. Prizes will go to the top three elite males, fe­males and some age groups. En­try fee is $25 in ad­vance or $30 on race day. For Mililani High stu­dents, it’s $20 in ad­vance. For en­try forms, e-mail fam- ilyties5K@gmail.com or call 664-5197.

The course starts on the high school track, passes a gravel hill, takes three loops around cam­pus and fin­ishes back on the track.

Keith is the only child of Kristin and William Keith Jr., who is cur­rently de­ployed to Iraq with the Army for the sec­ond time in four years. Her grand­fa­ther was a Marine.

“I started run­ning be­cause ofmy dad,” Keith said.“I think that our re­la­tion­ship has grown be­cause of run­ning, so I de­cided to fo­cus on the whole fam­ily/friend bond­ing thing.”

Keith hopes to even­tu­ally at­tend ve­teri­nary school.
