Drug Free Fam­ily Night March 2

Kendyl Ko Drug Free Hawaii Fam­ily Night is set for 6-8 p.m. March 2 at Hawaii Ok­i­nawa Cen­ter with a full menu of drug-preven­tion and drug-fight­ing tips.

Key­note speak­ers are Gary Shimabukuro, pres­i­dent of Laulima Drug Free Hawaii; de­tec­tive Mark Mid­dle­ton of Martin County Florida Sher­iff ’s Of­fice; and Keith Kamita, Hawaii Nar­cotics Divi­sion en­force­ment chief. Guest “role mod­els” in­clude Stars of To­mor­row grand cham­pion Jas­min Idica, along with the 808 Break­ers and Hawaii’s hu­man beat box Ja­son Tom. Hawaii premier DJ and host of OC16’s Disn’Dat Kut­mas­ter Spaz serves as host and em­cee.

Zippy’s Restau­rants is do­nat­ing a din­ner of heavy pu­pus to be pre­pared and served by Wai­pio’s own A Catered Ex­pe­ri­ence.

Shimabukuro will cover the cur­rent drug trends af­fect­ing our youths. Mid­dle­ton will fo­cus on In­ter­net safety and dan­gers, iden­tity theft, cy­ber bul­ly­ing and other on­line prob­lems. Kamita will bring a dis­play of il­le­gal drugs and para­pher­na­lia.

The free pub­lic pro­gram is named af­ter Ko, a state pro­gram spe­cial­ist for the Drug-Free Schools Pro­gram who died last sum­mer. Ko be­lieved in Hawaii’s chil­dren and had a pas­sion for mak­ing the Is­lands a safer place to live.
