Drug Free Family Night March 2
Kendyl Ko Drug Free Hawaii Family Night is set for 6-8 p.m. March 2 at Hawaii Okinawa Center with a full menu of drug-prevention and drug-fighting tips.
Keynote speakers are Gary Shimabukuro, president of Laulima Drug Free Hawaii; detective Mark Middleton of Martin County Florida Sheriff ’s Office; and Keith Kamita, Hawaii Narcotics Division enforcement chief. Guest “role models” include Stars of Tomorrow grand champion Jasmin Idica, along with the 808 Breakers and Hawaii’s human beat box Jason Tom. Hawaii premier DJ and host of OC16’s Disn’Dat Kutmaster Spaz serves as host and emcee.
Zippy’s Restaurants is donating a dinner of heavy pupus to be prepared and served by Waipio’s own A Catered Experience.
Shimabukuro will cover the current drug trends affecting our youths. Middleton will focus on Internet safety and dangers, identity theft, cyber bullying and other online problems. Kamita will bring a display of illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
The free public program is named after Ko, a state program specialist for the Drug-Free Schools Program who died last summer. Ko believed in Hawaii’s children and had a passion for making the Islands a safer place to live.
