Reg­is­ter For Kinder­garten Now

Par­ents are be­ing urged to reg­is­ter their keiki for kinder­garten or pre-kinder­garten now for the up­com­ing school year, which be­gins Aug. 5.

Chil­dren who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are in­vited to en­roll in grade K, while those who turn 5 by Dec. 31 can en­ter ju­nior-K. (Nei­ther class is manda­tory in Hawaii.)

Some schools have com­pleted their open regis­tra­tion pe­riod; oth­ers con­duct par­ent ori­en­ta­tions. Ka­noe­lani El­e­men­tary in Wai­pio, for ex­am­ple, hosts a kinder­garten ori­en­ta­tion and tour for all in­com­ing grade K stu­dents from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 6 (675-0195).

Cen­tral Oahu fam­i­lies should con­tact their neigh­bor­hood school for spe­cific in­for­ma­tion, or call the Cen­tral Dis­trict of­fice at 627-7478 for as­sis­tance. For de­tails on health re­quire­ments, regis­tra­tion doc­u­ments and ju­nior kinder­garten, visit doe.k12.hi.us/par­ents.

The 2012-2013 school year ends May 24.
