Ocean Fest June 1 At Tur­tle Bay

The sec­ond an­nual North Shore Ocean Fest, set for noon to 6 p.m. June 1 at Tur­tle Bay Re­sort, has an­nounced its lineup of ac­tiv­i­ties and en­ter­tain­ment, which is de­signed to in­crease res­i­dents’ aware­ness about pro­tect­ing the ocean.

The fes­ti­val ben­e­fits the North Shore Ocean Ed­u­ca­tion Coali­tion to sup­port out­reach to stu­dents and their fam­i­lies from Wa­ialua to Ka‘a‘awa. This year, it will award mini-grants to teach­ers for ocean-re­lated lessons and ac­tiv­i­ties.

In ad­di­tion to po­etry, art and es­say con­tests for keiki, or­ga­niz­ers have added a video com­pe­ti­tion for teens to cre­ate 30- to 60-sec­ond pub­lic ser­vice an­nounce­ments about ocean pro­tec­tion. Win­ning en­tries will be screened at the fes­ti­val, and a GoPro cam­era, Sil­ver Edi­tion, goes to the grand-prize win­ner. Dead­line is May 24. The fes­ti­val plans fish paint­ing, kayak­ing, a beach cleanup, ex­hibits, speak­ers, he­li­copter and dol­phin res­cues, silent auc­tion, food, crafts, Hawai­ian games, prizes and more.

En­ter­tain­ers in­clude HEA Hula Halau at noon, Nathan Em­mans and The Art of Whimsy at 12:45 p.m., Kapono Naili‘ili at 1:30, Honu by the Sea at 2:15 (a play), Lopaka Brown at 3, Halau Hula Makana a ke Aloha at 3:45, Blayne As­ing and Steele Gui­tar Steve at 4:30 and Paul Izak and Seeds of Love at 5:15 p.m.
