Lions Sa­lute Mil­i­tary His­tory

Wa­ialua Lions Club is invit­ing the pub­lic to cel­e­brate North Shore mil­i­tary his­tory Sun­day at its 67th an­nual Me­mo­rial Day Cel­e­bra­tion at Haleiwa Beach Park.

Guest speaker is Col. Ron­ald Han (Ret.), a 28year U.S. Air Force vet­eran, who will dis­cuss the achieve­ments of area res­i­dents who served in World War II, Korea and Viet­nam — in­clud­ing in the famed 442 Reg­i­men­tal Com­bat Team, the 100th In­fantry Bat­tal­ion and the Mil­i­tary In­tel­li­gence Ser­vice. Han cur­rently serves as the state di­rec­tor of Vet­er­ans Ser­vices at Tripler Army Med­i­cal Cen­ter.

In ad­di­tion to the lec­ture, the cel­e­bra­tion will fea­ture a con­cert by the Wa­ialua High School Band, a post­ing of the col­ors by the U.S. Army and Civil Air Patrol, a sa­lute to fallen ser­vice mem­bers, a trib­ute to par­ents, fam­ily and friends of North Shore vet­er­ans, and the pre­sen­ta­tion of wreaths by mem­bers of the 442/ 100th In­fantry Bat­tal­ion and vet­er­ans groups.

In ad­di­tion, the Lions will pay trib­ute to the late Rev. Ron Va­len­ciana and his wife, Alexia, for their long­stand­ing sup­port of the Me­mo­rial Day cel­e­bra­tion.
