Vol­un­teers Needed For Sony Open

Friends of Hawaii Char­i­ties seeks vol­un­teers to work the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii PGA Tour tour­na­ment Jan. 11-17, rang­ing from mar­shals to driv­ers, and there’s a fit for every­one — even those who don’t know much about golf.

The PGA Tour tour­ney sig­nals the launch of full­field events for this year and has a purse of $5.5 mil­lion.

Among the con­tenders for the $990,000 win­ner’s prize will be Hawaii’s own Tadd Fujikawa, who is play­ing on the spon­sor’s ex­emp­tion. (Fujikawa, who will turn 19 just be­fore the tour­na­ment starts, made golf his­tory at 2007 Sony Open as the youngest am­a­teur to make the cut in nearly 50 years.)

Mon­day’s kick­off will fea­ture an 11 a.m. Shot­gun Sony Dream Cup Pro-Am; Tues­day of­fers an all-day Pro­fes­sional Prac­tice Round
