Coun­cil Seek­ing New Face For Djou’s Seat

Want a job? As you may have heard, City Coun­cil­man Charles Djou ac­cepted a tem­po­rary fed­eral job far­ther away from his East Oahu base and must be re­placed soon by his coun­cil col­leagues.

Re­sumes should be turned in by June 1 for con­sid­er­a­tion.

“There is no le­gal dead­line for nom­i­nat­ing a po­ten­tial can­di­date,” ex­plained City Coun­cil Chair­man Todd Apo. “How­ever, by col­lect­ing names by June 1, we will have a list of can­di­dates at least a week be­fore the June 9 coun­cil meet­ing. Upon re­ceiv­ing the names, the coun­cil will se­lect the suc­ces­sor via res­o­lu­tion, which will re­quire the sup­port of at least five of the re­main­ing mem­bers.”

Re­sumes can be e-mailed to or hand-de­liv­ered to the coun­cil’s Honolulu Hale of­fice. Can­di­dates must live in District IV (Hawaii Kai to Ala Moana), and the term ends Jan. 2. Djou’s term in Congress also ends in Jan­uary, depend­ing on the state’s gen­eral elec­tion re­sults in Novem­ber.
