Poise Pens Now For Star Po­ets Con­test

Stu­dents in grades 3-12 from all Hawaii schools are in­vited to sub­mit en­tries for the 2010-2011 Star Po­ets Con­test, with read­ings and an awards cer­e­mony to be held next May at Pa­liku The­atre in Ka­neohe.

Dead­line is Jan. 28, 2011, and three po­ems on any topic (max­i­mum 20 lines each) are wel­come. They may be mailed to Star Po­ets Con­test c/o Su­san St. John, Wind­ward Com­mu­nity Col­lege, 45-720 Keaa­hala Road, Ka­neohe HI 96744. The top prize is $50 in each grade, and win­ning po­ems will be pub­lished in the Star Po­ets Jour­nal.

An ad­di­tional Hu­man­i­ties prize will go to one or more po­ems “that ex­plore bridges be­tween Hawaii’s past and fu­ture or ways in which Hawaii is spe­cial.”

Co-spon­sor­ing the 11th an­nual com­pe­ti­tion are WCC, the Hawaii Writ­ing Project and the Hawaii Coun­cil for the Hu­man­i­ties, with sup­port from Wind­ward Arts Coun­cil.
