Storment Hopes To Lead Sabers To A B-ball State Title
This season, he’s averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds per outing.
Pairings for the tournament, which runs today through Saturday, were to be announced over last weekend. On the eve of the tournament, Storment took some time away from school to talk with the
What’s the key for Campbell this week? What can the Saber Nation look for? Coach Wyatt has been there (to the post-season as the former head coach of Aiea) — he’s won championships — so we need to do what he wants. We have to play together. We’ve proved this season that when we don’t play together we don’t win. We have to have that chemistry on the court, and we can’t turn the ball over.
What area of your game did you focus on improving in the off-season? During the summer, I really wanted to work on my post moves. Coach knew I had strength and that I could rebound, so he wanted me to work on the fundamentals — my offensive post moves, like the up-and-under and the dropstep. Wyatt helped me out a lot. I know I have improved a lot.
Who is your most competitive teammate at prac- tice? Kristian Manuel. He may be a guard, but we’re always competing every day in practice to see who is the best player and the best leader on the team.
Who’s had the biggest impact on you in your life? I would say my mom (Ellory Storment). When I found out she had cancer last season, it really took its toll on me. I try to make her proud every time I step on the court. I am the youngest ( along with twin sister Bobbielaine), with six brothers and three sisters, and none has gone to college yet, so I am hoping to make something different happen.
What Internet site do you frequent the most? That would have to be Hawaii Hoops. It’s a blog — they talk about high school basketball in Hawaii, mostly.
What is your least favorite household chore? Cleaning my bedroom. I like to live comfortably — I don’t need to be a clean freak. Whatever falls on the floor stays on the floor.
What movie could you watch over and over again?
(2004) with Brad Pitt. It has old Spartans fighting among themselves.
What’s currently in your iPod? I mostly listen to anything that gets my heart pumping. I like hip hop. Drake gets me hyped — like
Do you play video games? What are your favorites? I’d say I’m a PS3 type of guy. My favorite games would have to be NBA Live 2010 and Madden ( Pro Football) 2010. I try to get all of the new (updated versions of) games. The graphics get better and better.
If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date? It would have to be Oprah (Winfrey). She would pay for everything. (Storment and real-life girlfriend Tiana Muraoka, also a Campbell student, have been dating for a year.)
You are stuck on Kahoolawe. You can have an endless supply of one food. What would it be? I’d have to say an apple tree so I could keep growing them. Plus, I love apples.
