Motorists in the Ewa area, be advised: The intersection at Kapolei Parkway and Kolowaka Drive was changed March 19 from a two-way stop to a four-way stop control.

In place will be warning signs and devices designed to reinforce driver awareness that all vehicles must come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection. Previously, only cars traveling on Kolowaka Drive were required to stop.

The four-way stop is an interim measure for a traffic signal that will be installed at the intersection within the next two to three months. The signal is being put in by Gentry Homes as part of a zoning requirement.

The intersection change was triggered by the recent opening of Kualaka‘ i Parkway (formerly North-South Road) and the connection of Kapolei Parkway between Renton Road and Kualaka‘i Parkway, which led to continuous routes between Papipi Road in Ewa Beach to the H-1 Freeway and to Fort Barrette Road in Kapolei.
