Ewa Beach-based non­profit Child & Fam­ily Ser­vice re­cently won a oneyear $18,500 grant from the na­tional mem­ber­ship or­ga­ni­za­tion Al­liance for Chil­dren and Fam­i­lies to serve as a men­tor to a peer or­ga­ni­za­tion. CFS will men­tor Fam­ily Ser­vice As­so­ci­a­tion of San An­to­nio, Texas, to ad­dress the needs, de­sires and con­tri­bu­tions of the el­derly.

The grant comes as part of the New Age of Ag­ing, a ma­jor five-year ini­tia­tive de­signed to help pre­pare hu­man ser­vice or­ga­ni­za­tions to bet­ter serve older adults as well as uti­lize their as­sets through vol­un­teerism and pro­fes­sional as­sis­tance.

CFS was one of 10 agen­cies in the nation to be se­lected for the grant, which, ac­cord­ing to pres­i­dent and CEO Howard Gar­val, will en­able the agency to “share our ex­per­tise and help strengthen the pro­fes­sion.”

• Hawai­iUSA Fed­eral Credit Union has opened a new branch at 1245 Kuala St. in Pearl City. In ad­di­tion to be­ing the credit union’s 11th branch, the build­ing will house call cen­ter op­er­a­tions and even­tu­ally a com­mu­nity room rental space where schools and or­ga­ni­za­tions can con­duct meet­ings and train­ing ses­sions.
