Onions Star In A Four-day Fest In Kapolei

Ewa sweet onions are in sea­son, and to cel­e­brate, Aloun Farms will host the sec­ond an­nual Sweet Onion Fes­ti­val from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m April 19-20 and 26-27.

The fes­ti­val cel­e­brates agri­cul­tural di­ver­sity in Hawaii, while also high­light­ing high school culi­nary pro­grams that con­nect lo­cal youths to the food in­dus­try. It kicks off with Hawaii’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt April 19 and 20. The Ewa Sweet Onion Con­cert is April 26.

Each day of the fes­ti­val fea­tures hayrides, which will take vis­i­tors on a tour of 1,000 acres of corn, mel­ons, beans, sun­flow­ers, egg­plant and zuc­chini — and, of course, onions. Live en­ter­tain­ment, crafts, fresh lo­cal pro­duce, rides and more also will be part of the fun.

Hawaii Food­bank will ac­cept canned food do­na­tions on both week­ends. Those who do­nate re­ceive a free onion.

Ad­mis­sion is $3; chil­dren un­der 2 get in free. April 27 is Mil­i­tary Ap­pre­ci­a­tion Day; those with a mil­i­tary ID get in free.
