MidWeek Islander (West Oahu) - - West Oahu Sports - By JACK DANILEWICZ

The month of April has been good to the Kapolei water polo program. In 14 years of competing, the Hurricanes have never missed out on qualifying for the state tournament.

Senior Brooke Bosque knows the proud history. She and her teammates are hoping to add to it this week when Kapolei, which was 10-2 heading into last weekend, begins play in the OIA tournament.

“We’re definitely motivated, and we’d love to get first in the OIA,” said Bosque. “We talk about it. Because of how we’ve done in the past, we have to work harder to reach that goal. All of the girls are giving 110 percent effort in our practices and games.”

Bosque recently took some time away from school and practice to visit with MidWeek’sWest Oahu Islander.

What is your earliest sports-related memory? Before I started swimming, when I first started playing indoor soccer. I was 8 or 9. I wasn’t as good at it as swimming, but I liked it. I struggled with swimming at first, but after a couple of years, I got the hang of it.

Who’s had the biggest impact on your life? My family. They’re always pushing me to try my best in everything I do. My sisters (Doran and Payton) have helped me to learn from my mistakes, and they’ve been there for me when I’ve needed them the most.

What area of your game have you been focused on lately? Playing (the position of) Set. When we lost my sister (Doran) to graduation after last season, someone had to fill her spot.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Owning or working at a hair salon. That’s what I’d like to do when I get older.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned through athletics? Teamwork and communication. If you don’t work together, the flow of your play won’t be as good; and if you don’t communicate well, you’ll get frustrated with each other.

What Internet site do you frequent the most? Instagram.

What is your least favorite household chore? I don’t like washing the dishes.

What movie could you watch over and over? Move On.

Who are three of your favorite musical artists? The Dirty Heads, Every Avenue and Nesian Nine.

When you have free time, how do you like to spend it? I like to go to the beach, travel around the island or just hang out with my friends.

You’re stuck on Kahoolawe and can have an endless supply of just one food. What would it be? Sushi.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you most like to meet? ( Actor) Dave Franco.
