Race A Honu, Raise $ For Boys And Girls

Pur­chase a rub­ber honu to race against hun­dreds of oth­ers, and you will be help­ing to raise funds for The Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii Lee­ward Club­houses dur­ing the an­nual Honu Race from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at the Sal­va­tion Army Kroc Cen­ter.

The club­houses in­clude Hale Pono Ewa Beach, NFL YET Hawaii Nanakuli and Wa­ianae.

At­ten­dees can ‘adopt’ a tur­tle to race for prizes that in­clude a Chevron gift card, a McDon­ald’s gift card and more.

“The Honu Race is our spin on the ‘Rub­ber Ducky Race,’ stated Lori Re­spi­cio, pro­gram di­rec­tor of the Hale Pono Club­house. “The event is an op­por­tu­nity for all kids, in­clud­ing non-mem­bers, and their fam­i­lies, to be to­gether and en­joy the day. We’ve got a honu col­or­ing con­test, prize give­aways, spe­cial good­ies and even a char­ac­ter race — what bet­ter way to spend a Satur­day?”

The event also will in­clude a num­ber of other fam­ily friendly ac­tiv­i­ties.

Par­tic­i­pants can pur­chase a Kroc Cen­ter day pass and one honu for $ 20 at any of the Lee­ward Club­houses prior to the event (the price jumps up $3 on May 10).
