Kapolei’s Adult Speaker Se­ries

Adults will not be left out of the state li­brary sys­tem’s Sum­mer Read­ing Pro­gram at Kapolei Li­brary.

The branch, for ex­am­ple, of­fers “Lit­er­ary El­e­ments,” an adult sum­mer read­ing speaker se­ries, which will meet at 1 p.m. on four Satur­days start­ing June 7.

And, sim­i­lar to the chil­dren’s pro­gram, all adult read­ers are in­vited to sign up, read a book and write a brief re­view each week to re­ceive an in­cen­tive gift. There also will be weekly prize draw­ings.

The speaker se­ries sched­ule is listed be­low and is open to ev­ery­one.

• June 7 — FILM. Chuck Boller, di­rec­tor emer­i­tus of Hawaii In­ter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val, will dis­cuss how a film­mak­ing team de­cides what book or story would make a good movie.

• June 14 — PO­ETRY. The edi­tor of Tinfish Press and an English pro­fes­sor at UH, Su­san Schultz will dis­cuss how to get the most out of read­ing po­etry. Tinfish pub­lishes ex­per­i­men­tal po­etry.

• June 28 — ART. Justin Davies, out­reach pro­gram man­ager for Honolulu Mu­seum of Art School, dis­cusses the el­e­ments to con­sider when look­ing at a work of art.

• July 12 — BOOKS. An ex­pert on chil­dren’s books with a Mas­ter of Fine Arts de­gree, Nancy Thalia Reynolds will dis­cuss why so many adults are at­tracted to young adult books.
