STEM Camps At Pearl Har­bor

Ap­pli­ca­tions are due June 10 for Pearl Har­bor Naval Ship­yard & Intermediate Main­te­nance Fa­cil­ity’s STEM Awards pro­gram, which rec­og­nizes high school stu­dents who have a demon­strated ded­i­ca­tion to sci­ence, tech­nol­ogy, en­gi­neer­ing and math­e­mat­ics.

Funded by the Na­tional De­fense Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­gram, the awards pro­vide $2,000 each for 10 stu­dents ac­tive in ro­bot­ics pro­grams.

Stu­dent must be state res­i­dents cur­rently en­rolled in high school. Ap­pli­cants also must be in good aca- demic stand­ing and have been ac­tive in Hawaii’s an­nual FIRST Ro­bot­ics Com­pe­ti­tion for at least one aca­demic year.

In more STEM news, Pa­cific Avi­a­tion Mu­seum Pearl Har­bor is launch­ing its STEM sum­mer pro­gram next week with its Flight School and Avi­a­tion Ad­ven­ture ses­sions. De­signed for mid­dle school and high school un­der­class­men, both pro­grams in­tro­duce stu­dents to var­i­ous as­pects of avi­a­tion.

Dur­ing the three-day Flight School, stu­dents will learn the his­tory and tech­nol­ogy of avi­a­tion with hands- on lessons. Flight School of­fers three ses­sions for boys June 57; June 17-19; and June 24-26; and two ses­sions for girls June 10-12; and July 8-10.

The Avi­a­tion Ad­ven­ture pro­gram is de­signed for stu­dents who have com­pleted Flight School or are at least 13 years old. The three-day, two-night work­shop runs from July 15 to 17 or from July 22 to 24.
