Happy 35th Birth­day To Waimanalo Li­brary

Waimanalo Li­brary will mark its 35th year with a birth­day party for the pub­lic from 6 to 8 tonight (Feb. 27).

En­ter­tain­ing pa­trons and the com­mu­nity will be Halau Hula ‘o Kawaiho‘omalu, which is based in Waimanalo, and Fun Fun the Clown, along with ac­tiv­i­ties for the keiki, photo dis­plays and re­fresh­ments.

Spon­sors for the event are the Ro­tary Club of Wind­ward Oahu Sun­rise and the Friends of Waimanalo Li­brary. For more in­for­ma­tion, call 259-2610.

The li­brary opened on Feb. 25, 1978 on the cam­pus of Waimanalo Ele­men­tary and In­ter­me­di­ate School, and has served the com­mu­nity in many ways over its his­tory.

A land­mark mu­ral by Guy Buf­fet, “Waimanalo Love Song,” was added in 1980 on the front and side walls of the build­ing, fea­tur­ing the like­nesses of Gabby Pahinui, the Brothers Caz­imero, Ed­die Ka­mae and the Sons of Hawaii, as well as noted li­brary staff. AAUW and sci­ence The Amer­i­can As­so­ci­a­tion of Univer­sity Women Wind­ward chap­ter meets at 9:30 a.m. at Ho‘oma­luhia Botan­i­cal Garden to hear HCC sci­ence pro­fes­sor and “Facts of the Mat­ter” colum­nist Richard Brill dis­cuss “Ig­no­rance and Ac­tivism.” The pub­lic is in­vited.
