San Diego Charg­ers line­backer Manti Te’o stepped into the new role of donor last week at his alma mater, Kahuku High & In­ter­me­di­ate School (be­fore trans­fer­ring to Pu­na­hou). Manti pre­sented a $10,000 check — half of it his own money and half from the NFL Match­ing Funds Grant — to sup­port the Red Raiders’ foot­ball pro­gram, in­clud­ing equip­ment and sup­plies. Prin­ci­pal Pauline Masa­niai was grate­ful for the gift: “We ap­pre­ci­ate that Manti is giv­ing back to his com­mu­nity, and as a school and ex­tended ohana, we’re proud of his many ac­com­plish­ments and giv­ing spirit.” Manti’s mom also works as a coun­selor at the school, and both par­ents are proud Red Raider alumni … Leg­endary Kailua mu­si­cian/com­poser Ken­neth Makuakane will per­form at 7:30 p.m. Satur­day at HPR’s Ather­ton Stu­dio on Ka­heka Street (955-8821). He also will re­ceive the Hawaii Academy of Record­ing Arts 2015 Life­time Achieve­ment Award in May … Kailua Sail­boards & Kayaks took the $2,500 first prize (from Revolusun) in Sus­tain­able Coast­lines and Kupu Hawaii’s first Ul­ti­mate Sand Sifter Chal­lenge Nov. 15. The group noted the re­sort’s work with lo­cal schools, cul­tural fes­ti­vals, lo­cal farm­ing, con­ser­va­tion ease­ments, green roof­ing, so­lar pan­els and more … Ka­neohe’s Carol Momi Abella has joined Cold­well Banker Pa­cific Prop­er­ties in its new agent train­ing of­fice … Ka­puna­hala El­e­men­tary prin­ci­pal Deb­o­rah Neko­moto is in the run­ning for two na­tional awards, nom­i­nated by Cas­tle-Kahuku Com­plex area su­per­in­ten­dent Lea Al­bert: Na­tional Dis­tin­guished Prin­ci­pal and the Masayuki Tokioka Ex­cel­lence in School Lead­er­ship award.
