En­chanted Reef Lurks Un­der Hoku­lani’s Roof

Chil­dren can look up at the Hoku­lani Imag­i­nar­ium dome Satur­day and see what lies be­neath the ocean’s sur­face.

The Wind­ward Com­mu­nity Col­lege plan­e­tar­ium will screen the an­i­mated film Kalu­oka‘hina: The En­chanted Reef at 2 and 3 p.m., pro­jected on its 360de­gree full­dome, with a fo­cus on a mag­i­cal trop­i­cal reef threat­ened by a vol­canic dis­as­ter. Char­ac­ters saw­fish Jake and reef fish Shorty must fig­ure out how a leg­end about touch­ing the moon can save their aquatic home.

UH’s Cen­ter for Mi­cro­bial Oceanog­ra­phy Re­search and Ed­u­ca­tion also will have an ocean aware­ness ex­hibit out­side from 1 to 4 p.m. with de­tails about its re­search and po­ten­tial for ca­reers.

Ad­mis­sion is $7 for adults; $6 for UH stu­dents and staff, mil­i­tary and se­niors; and $5 for ages 4-12. Keiki un­der 5 get in free. At­ten­dees should re­serve a spot by 4 p.m. Fri­day by call­ing 2357433.
