Wisconsin’s favorite Halloween candy is better than Michigan’s, Minnesota’s

- CHELSEY LEWIS

Nobody’s gonna lay a finger on your Butterfinger this Halloween. Or at least fewer people will try.

The crispy peanut butter and chocolate bar slipped from favorite status in Wisconsin to No. 2, with Starburst claiming the favorite Halloween candy crown this year.

The fruit-flavored taffy is Wisconsin’s top Halloween candy, according to CandyStore.com. The bulk candy distributor analyzed a decade of its sales data for the months leading up to Halloween to determine each state’s favorite treat.

Wisconsin consumed 116,788 pounds of Starbursts around Halloween.

Butterfinger slipped from its top spot last year to No. 2 this year, with 115,982 pounds consumed. Jolly Ranchers were a distant third at 42,998 pounds.

All three are solid candy offerings, certainly better than Michigan’s appar ent favorite: the abomination that is candy corn.

The biggest con in candy is somehow a favorite in five other states: Alabama, Idaho, New Mexico, Rhode Island and South Carolina. As they say, there’s no accounting for taste.

Midwestern neighbor Minnesota sucks … Tootsie Pops. Illinois continues to be sour about everything and is a fan of Sour Patch Kids.
