SkillsUSA is a na­tional non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion that works with schools and in­dus­try pro­fes­sion­als to pro­vide ed­u­ca­tional and hands-on ex­pe­ri­ence in a va­ri­ety of dis­ci­plines to en­sure Amer­ica has a skilled work­force.

Each year, stu­dents com­pete at lo­cal and state lev­els for var­i­ous dis­ci­plines, with a na­tional cham­pi­onship tak­ing place in Louisville, Ken­tucky. For the first time, the SkillsUSA Car­pen­try Cham­pi­onship com­pe­ti­tion for Wis­con­sin will take place at the Mil­wau­kee NARI Spring Home Im­prove­ment Show. Eight to 12 schools will be com­pet­ing over the course of two days, where each team of four stu­dents will fol­low plans and build a sec­tion of a house. Win­ners go on to com­pete at Na­tion­als. Be sure to check them out in ac­tion at the show on Thurs­day and Fri­day.

The Mil­wau­kee NARI Foun­da­tion, the chap­ter’s char­i­ta­ble arm, is a spon­sor of SkillsUSA’s car­pen­try di­vi­sion.
