A step back
At this point in the history of professional nursing, the unions are a barrier to the best use of the deep and competent knowledge and care that nursing brings to patient care (“Unified yes; united, no,” Dec. 14, 2009, p. 6).
The union steals a portion of the “Nightingale heart” and replaces it with resentment and anger toward true professional progress. Staffing levels are a clinical quality issue, which union boss Rose Anne DeMoro, who is not a nurse, knows nothing about. This action is a step back for professional nursing care.
