Exempla lets several high-ranking employees go
Less than a month after its Dec. 18, 2009 installation, the new board of directors at Exempla Healthcare has cleaned house and several top leadership positions at the three-hospital, Denverbased system are vacant. Jeffrey Selberg, the system’s president and CEO and former member of the American Hospital Association board of trustees, is out, as are Robert Malte, president and CEO of 395-bed Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Robert Minkin, president and CEO of 361-bed Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver; Judy Mitchell, senior vice president of strategy and organizational effectiveness for the system; and Kay Taylor, vice president of communications and marketing for the system. The changes were announced in a letter from board Chairman William Murray to employees, physicians and volunteers. Exempla management had contested a sale of the system to a Catholic health system because it didn’t want to adopt Catholic ethical and religious directives for care, but an agreement for a handoff of control was reached last year (Nov. 23, 2009, p. 12).
