Fine, Bernd win CEO IT awards
and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society are pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s CEO IT Achievement Award.
The 2010 winners are: Peter Fine, president and CEO of Banner Health in Phoenix; and David Bernd, CEO of Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va. The pair of executives brings to 20 the number of CEOs who have received the award, which was created in 2003. Two executives were honored in 2003, three in 2004, three in 2005, one in 2006, three in 2007, three in 2008, and three in 2009.
The award recognizes healthcare CEOs who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to using information technology to advance their organizations’ goals. A five-judge panel consisting of three CEOs chosen by
and two chief information officers chosen by HIMSS selected Fine and Bernd from a pool of 82 nominees.
and HIMSS announced the eighth annual CEO IT Achievement Award competition on Jan. 11, and the deadline for submissions was March 19. The judges evaluated the nominations through April 9 with the two winners determined on April 12.

and HIMSS will honor Fine and Bernd at the 2010 Government Health IT Conference & Exhibition to be held June 15-16 in Washington. The recipients will be invited to speak about their successful IT implementations in sessions at the conference.
