Hasta la VistA, baby

Modern Healthcare - - Opinions Letters -

I think it is laudable that many within the Veterans Affairs Department wish to update VistA in an open-source manner, but there are new systems in beta right now that are so much more powerful/flexible, inexpensive and easier to use and support than anything being sold today (“VistA veterans mixed on EHR recommendations,” Health IT Strategist, May 13).

I would strongly encourage the VA in particular to consider these systems in order to save taxpayer money. The VA could have such a system installed in far, far less time than it will take them to develop their own code.
