Among Amer­i­can In­di­ans/Alaska Na­tives ages 15 to 34, sui­cide is the sec­ond-lead­ing cause of death be­hind “un­in­ten­tional in­juries.” Sui­cide rates among Amer­i­can In­dian/Alaskan Na­tive ado­les­cents and young adults ages 15 to 34 (19.7 per 100,000) are 1.8 times higher than the na­tional av­er­age (11.1 per 100,000). His­panic fe­male high school stu­dents in grades nine-12 had a higher per­cent­age of sui­cide at­tempts (14%) than their white, non-His­panic (7.7%) or black, non-His­panic (9.9%) coun­ter­parts.
