We don’t want to say his idea is cartoonish, but …
The mastermind behind one of the latest YouTube videos to go viral, from a healthcare perspective, is none other than Centura Health President and CEO Gary Campbell. Found at bit.ly/b0i7Ff, the video is a sendup of how a healthcare executive might approach the industry buzz surrounding accountable care organizations. When told of the work needed to manage health within an ACO, the executive decides to start an ACO first and ask questions later. “We can figure out the health management stuff after a few meetings,” he says. Why the executive wants an ACO: “ Modern Healthcare said I need an accountable care organization to be successful.”
Campbell produced the video for a meeting of board members and executives for the Englewood, Colo.-based system. “It seems to be going viral,” he says. Campbell says the video seeks to humorously show how the industry sometimes misses the point. “Healthcare executives have a ten- dency to focus on structure instead of process,” he says. Centura, jointly sponsored by Adventist Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives, is keeping that in mind as it works to form ACOs for its hospitals.
Campbell mines a vein of humor in ACOs.
