Dead­lines for we­b­cast, case study con­test, Trustee of the Year on hori­zon

Dead­lines near for Hall of Fame, trustee, case study nom­i­na­tions

Jan. 3 is the dead­line for read­ers to sub­mit nom­i­na­tions for the 2011 Health Care Hall of Fame in­duc­tion. The pro­gram rec­og­nizes lu­mi­nar­ies who have made out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tions to health­care na­tion­ally and in­ter­na­tion­ally. A panel of dis­tin­guished health­care in­dus­try judges an­nu­ally se­lects win­ners for this recog­ni­tion. The judges will re­view the nom­i­na­tions us­ing a set of 10 el­i­gi­bil­ity and award cri­te­ria. A list of the cri­te­ria can be found un­der the Awards & Hon­ors sec­tion on the mag­a­zine’s web­site, ModernHealth­care.com. Read­ers also can find past in­ductees in the spe­cial sec­tion this year of the March 22 is­sue of Mod­ern Health­care or through the Awards & Hon­ors sec­tion. Since 1988, a to­tal of 87 health­care ex­ec­u­tives and lead­ers have been in­ducted into the Health Care Hall of Fame.

Please send nom­i­nat­ing letters and back­ground in­for­ma­tion on the can­di­dates to: Hall of Fame, c/o Neil McLaugh­lin, man­ag­ing edi­tor, Mod­ern Health­care, 360 N. Michi­gan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601. Again, the nom­i­na­tion dead­line is Jan. 3. In­ductees will be an­nounced in Fe­bru­ary and pro­filed in the March 21 is­sue. They will be hon­ored at a din­ner held March 20, in con­junc­tion with the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Health­care Ex­ec­u­tives’ an­nual congress in Chicago. Three other dead­lines are com­ing up quickly. If you haven’t reg­is­tered for our Nov. 17 ed­i­to­rial we­b­cast on the grow­ing role of clin­i­cal in­for­mati­cists, there’s still time. The we­b­cast, mod­er­ated by Mod­ern Health­care re­porter Mau­reen McKin­ney, will fea­ture pre­sen­ta­tions by three of the re­cently rec­og­nized Top 25 Clin­i­cal In­for­mati­cists in Health­care (Nov. 8, p. 26). The pan­elists are El­iz­a­beth John­son from Tenet Health­care Corp.; Ge­orge Reynolds with Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal & Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Omaha, Neb.; and Christo- pher Sny­der with Penin­sula Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Sal­is­bury, Md. Dec. 3 is the dead­line for sub­mit­ting your case study in our first an­nual Rev­enue Cy­cle Cast Study Con­test. The pro­gram rec­og­nizes health­care providers who have im­ple­mented pro­grams, ser­vices, strate­gies, de­part­ments or staffing that has im­proved their billing and col­lec­tion op­er­a­tions. The best case stud­ies will be fea­tured in a spe­cial sec­tion of the Jan. 31 is­sue of Mod­ern Health­care. All sub­mit­ted case stud­ies will ap­pear in a spe­cial sec­tion on ModernHealth­care.com.

Dec. 3 also is the dead­line to sub­mit your nom­i­na­tions for our an­nual Trustee of the Year com­pe­ti­tion. The awards, cospon­sored by ex­ec­u­tive search firm Witt/Ki­ef­fer, will honor four out­stand­ing trustees for their con­tri­bu­tions to health­care gov­er­nance. The re­cip­i­ents will be an­nounced and pro­filed in the Feb. 14 is­sue of Mod­ern Health­care.

And if you miss your dead­line, you’ll have to deal with Supriya Doshi, the new­est mem­ber of our copy desk in our Chicago news­room. Doshi, 28, re­places James Tehrani, 37, who moved over to our sis­ter pub­li­ca­tion, Work­force Man­age­ment, as copy desk chief. Doshi is re­spon­si­ble for edit­ing con­tent for all of our print and dig­i­tal pub­li­ca­tions. Doshi also will be con­tribut­ing to our grow­ing use of so­cial me­dia to gather and dis­sem­i­nate news and in­for­ma­tion. Doshi is a for­mer copy edi­tor, colum­nist and blog­ger for the RedEye, a pub­li­ca­tion owned by the Tribune Co. in Chicago.
