2010 Spirit winners show passion for their work
Modern Healthcare congratulates the winners and honorable mentions of the 18th annual Spirit of Excellence Awards, cosponsored by Sodexo Health Care Services. This year’s winners and runners-up are profiled on the following pages.
Each of the five winners will receive a cash prize of $5,000, and each of the five honorable mentions will receive a $1,500 cash prize.
This year’s competition drew 98 entries, down from last year’s 120 submissions. Modern Healthcare announced this year’s award compe- tition on Aug. 16. The deadline for submissions was Oct. 8 and was extended to Oct. 22.
Per editorial policy, award sponsors are involved in neither the judging nor determination of award recipients.
To assist Modern Healthcare in making the selections, the magazine enlisted the help of five judges, all of whom are affiliated with past Spirit of Excellence Award recipients. They are:
■ Fran Butler-Cohen, CEO of the Family Health Centers of San Diego.
■ Thomas Gessel, senior vice president of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare in Louisville, Ky.
■ Mary Jane Gross, president and CEO of the Stars Behavioral Health Group in Oakland, Calif.
■ Sally Gammon, president and CEO of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown, Pa.
