Sag­ging econ­omy, re­form drive hos­pi­tal deals

Top story: In­vestor-owned hos­pi­tal com­pa­nies go on a buy­ing spree. The year ends with Com­mu­nity Health Sys­tems re­veal­ing that it has made a $7.3 bil­lion of­fer for Tenet Health­care Corp. Tenet ini­tially re­jects the pro­posal, but the move is in line with the pre­dic­tion of many ex­perts that the weak econ­omy and health­care re­form would spur hos­pi­tal deals. In­vestor-owned hos­pi­tal com­pa­nies were at the fore­front of the deal­mak­ing.
