Berwick right for the job

Re: “HHS launches $1 billion patient-safety initiative,” ModernHealth, April 12: It’s been a long time—at least 50 years of unbridled scurrying—but we may finally have some effective traction to systematically reduce errors and improve delivery and quality of care in all of its dimensions.

Dr. Donald Berwick is eminently qualified to lead this effort! Maybe, just maybe, we can progressively remove a good bit of the “foo foo dust and fog,” and supplant it with genuine measurable and incremental improvement. We must pursue results that make a genuine difference.

Ideology must fade; we have to coalesce as Americans on a pivotal mission that must not fail.
