A sound idea

Re: “Hospitals are awash in noise,” ModernHealthcare.com, April 25: One technology that is missing from hospitals is white noise dampening.

In use for over 40 years in such noisy places as office bullpens, airports and busy retail outlets, this technology uses sound to cancel out other sound. If you want to see—or hear—what it is like, check out the American Airlines concourse at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

One of the world’s busiest concourses is now almost as quiet as a library.
