Outsiders not needed
In your coverage of newly published findings on adverse events and the strength of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Global Trigger Tool for detecting them (“The more you look,” April 11, p. 8) there is a factual error. You write that the GTT requires “the use of trained reviewers from outside the organization,” which is not the case.
The tool was designed for use by reviewers from within the hospital, and there is no expectation or requirement for external reviewers. As a co-developer of the tool and co-author of the latest study, I appreciate the opportunity to correct this important point. Fran Griffin
