Most hospitals meet preparedness targets: HHS

Modern Healthcare - - Late News -

Roughly 76% of hospitals that participate in HHS’ Hospital Preparedness Program met 90% or more of program measures for all-hazards preparedness, HHS announced. The data came from a new report from Dr. Nicole Lurie, HHS’ assistant secretary for preparedness and response. The report, called From Hospitals to Healthcare Coalitions: Transforming Health Preparedness and Response in Our Communities, includes state-by-state reports on participating hospitals’ completion of the program measures. About 85% of the nation’s hospitals participate in the program, according to HHS. Lurie, in her introductory letter in the report, said the Hospital Preparedness Program must be responsive to lessons learned from disasters such as Japan’s earthquake and be flexible in meeting community needs. That will be encouraged by better alignment with other federal preparedness grant programs, increased emphasis on broader, communitywide approaches, and the development and use of additional metrics, Lurie wrote.
