Re: “Re­searchers: EHR data valu­able in ge­net­ics stud­ies,” ModernHealth care.com, April 25: I like the idea that the pa­tient “opts in” to be stud­ied, with the study data­base point­ing to the EHR pa­tient data­base.

That shows a lot more re­spect for pa­tients’ rights than is shown by the drug com­pa­nies in the Ver­mont case, who would es­sen­tially strike down pri­vacy—along with states’ rights—in fa­vor of a flimsy “free speech” ar­gu­ment and the almighty dol­lar.
