Dr. Paul Whel­ton plans to step down as pres­i­dent and CEO of Loy­ola Univer­sity Health Sys­tem, May­wood, Ill., ef­fec­tive June 30, when the sys­tem is ex­pected to be­come part of Trin­ity Health, Novi, Mich. Whel­ton, 64, joined Loy­ola in Fe­bru­ary 2007 and is cred­ited with stem­ming losses through a pro­gram of cost re­duc­tions and op­er­at­ing im­prove­ments. Dr.

Richard Gamelli, 62, the cur­rent dean of Loy­ola’s Stritch School of Medicine, was named se­nior VP and provost of health sci­ences, a re­struc­tured divi­sion that will in­clude the univer­sity’s med­i­cal and nurs­ing schools, as well as its health­care work­force and re­search in­sti­tutes. Whel­ton, an epi­demi­ol­o­gist, plans to ded­i­cate his time to his fam­ily and con­duct­ing re­search for the Na­tional In­sti­tutes of Health. … Ad­ven­tist Health, Roseville, Calif., named Bill Wing se­nior VP for sys­tem per­for­mance and strat­egy. Wing, 44, is sched­uled to as­sume the role June 1 and re­places Scott Reiner, who has been pro­moted to ex­ec­u­tive VP and COO. Wing comes to Ad­ven­tist from Cerner Corp., where he was se­nior VP for RevWorks, the rev­enue cy­cle divi­sion of the Kansas City, Mo.-based health­care soft­ware com­pany. He pre­vi­ously held var­i­ous lead­er­ship po­si­tions for Florida Hos­pi­tal, Or­lando. …

Kim Malinky plans to re­tire in Au­gust as pres­i­dent and CEO of Canons­burg (Pa.) Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal af­ter work­ing for the hos­pi­tal for 27 years. Malinky, 50, was named CEO of the hos­pi­tal, part of West Penn Al­legheny Health Sys­tem, in 2003. … Dou­glas Arnold was named CEO of He­len Keller Hos­pi­tal, Sh­effield, Ala. Arnold, 59, will suc­ceed Bill An­der­son, who served as pres­i­dent and CEO of the hos­pi­tal for 11 years. An­der­son an­nounced his res­ig­na­tion in Jan­uary. The hos­pi­tal’s board of­fered Arnold the po­si­tion this month and of­fi­cials an­nounced the ap­point­ment May 24. He is ex­pected to start in July. Arnold most re­cently served as CEO of North­west Health Sys­tem, a North­west Arkansas divi­sion of Brent­wood, Tenn.-based Com­mu­nity Health Sys­tems. … Joe

John­son is leav­ing his post as pres­i­dent and CEO of Florida Hos­pi­tal Fish Me­mo­rial, Orange City, Fla., on May 31. John­son, 49, is set to be­come COO of Univer­sity Com­mu­nity Hos­pi­tal in Tampa, Fla., af­ter 13 years in Orange City. The Tampa hos­pi­tal is part of Univer­sity Com­mu­nity Health, which merged last year with the par­ent of Florida Hos­pi­tal Fish Me­mo­rial, Ad­ven­tist Health Sys­tem, Win­ter Park, Fla., John­son’s em­ployer since 1984. His suc­ces­sor has not been named.
