Public health, public housing

Re: “Health organizations target disparities,” ModernHealthcare.com, July 18: I read with interest your recent article announcing an initiative on the part of our pre-eminent health organizations to address health disparities. In the absence of details, I wanted to bring an approach to your attention that would permit these organizations to more easily coordinate their effort.

I am with the New York City Housing Authority and responsible for health programs that will improve the health status and quality of life for residents of public housing. Survey data here and in other localities have indicated that residents of public housing manifest many of the disparities that need to be addressed as compared to the general population. Perhaps (the American Hospital Association) and the national health organizations should consider concentrating their efforts on public housing residents?
