Pa­trick Geraghty, 52, is leav­ing his post as pres­i­dent and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Min­nesota to take the helm at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, ef­fec­tive Sept. 1. He also will serve as CEO, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. Pamela Whee­lock, whose age was not avail­able, chair of the Min­nesota Blues board of trustees, will be­come in­terim CEO for the Ea­gan, Minn.-based in­surer un­til a re­place­ment for Geraghty is found, ac­cord­ing to the com­pany. Dr. Greg Pawl­son was named ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of qual­ity in­no­va­tions at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield As­so­ci­a­tion in Wash­ing­ton. In the newly cre­ated po­si­tion, Pawl­son, whose age was not avail­able, will lead the as­so­ci­a­tion’s qual­ity and safety ini­tia­tives and will work to pro­mote suc­cess­ful qual­ity and safety pro­grams de­vel­oped by Blues plans across the coun­try, ac­cord­ing to a Blues news re­lease. Pawl­son pre­vi­ously was ex­ec­u­tive VP at the Na­tional Com­mit­tee for Qual­ity As­sur­ance. He joined the NCQA in 2000 and also served as the group’s pri­mary li­ai­son to physi­cian spe­cialty as­so­ci­a­tions and med­i­cal boards. He also has served as se­nior as­so­ciate VP for health af­fairs and med­i­cal di­rec­tor for qual­ity and uti­liza­tion man­age­ment for the fac­ulty prac­tice at Ge­orge Wash­ing­ton Univer­sity Med­i­cal Cen­ter.
