Patrick Geraghty, 52, is leaving his post as president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota to take the helm at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, effective Sept. 1. Lufrano, 59, who is retiring from the Jacksonville, Fla.-based insurer. The Florida Blues board of directors plans to elect Geraghty as chairman of the company in September. He also will serve as CEO, according to a news release. Pamela Wheelock, whose age was not available, chair of the Minnesota Blues board of trustees, will become interim CEO for the Eagan, Minn.-based insurer until a replacement for Geraghty is found, according to the company. Dr. Greg Pawlson was named executive director of quality innovations at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association in Washington. In the newly created position, Pawlson, whose age was not available, will lead the association’s quality and safety initiatives and will work to promote successful quality and safety programs developed by Blues plans across the country, according to a Blues news release. Pawlson previously was executive VP at the National Committee for Quality Assurance. He joined the NCQA in 2000 and also served as the group’s primary liaison to physician specialty associations and medical boards. He also has served as senior associate VP for health affairs and medical director for quality and utilization management for the faculty practice at George Washington University Medical Center.
