With wit of pen, Com­phealth copy­writer steals the show

Do you like where you work? Do you like it enough to write a poem about it? Well, 26 of the 100 health­care com­pa­nies named to Modern Health­care’s 2011 list of the Best Places to Work in Health­care did. As part of this year’s recog­ni­tion pro­gram, we held a po­etry con­test. We chose five fi­nal­ists who read their po­ems aloud at our Oct. 18 awards ban­quet in Chicago. The more than 500 ex­ec­u­tives in at­ten­dance then voted for their fa­vorite poem. The win­ning poem was sub­mit­ted by Com­pHealth, a Salt Lake City-based health­care staffing com­pany. Grant Olsen, a mar­ket­ing copy­writer for Com­pHealth, au­thored the poem, which is reprinted be­low. If ap­proved, the throm­bolytic agent could ex­tend the treat­ment win­dow to nine hours.

It seems this isn’t the first clin­i­cal trial for the plas­mino­gen ac­ti­va­tor in the treat­ment of acute is­chemic stroke. Lund­beck, the Copen­hagen-based phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pany, owns the rights to the drug desmoteplase.

Desmoteplase isn’t the name used for the bat pro­tein. An­other study quite aptly named the drug Dra­c­ulin.
