A new stamp of sup­port for vets

One GOP Texas con­gress­man has come up with a rea­son why cit­i­zens might ac­tu­ally want to pay more for U.S. postage stamps.

In time for Vet­er­ans Day last week, Rep. Michael Burgess, a physi­cian, in­tro­duced the Vet­er­ans Health Care Stamp Act, which aims to pro­vide additional fund­ing for vet­eran health­care ser­vices. As part of the act, an op­tional, first-class postage stamp will be avail­able at a slightly higher cost than the typ­i­cal first-class rate. Funds raised through stamp pur­chases will then be sent to a pro­gram in the Vet­er­ans Af­fairs Depart­ment to in­crease ac­cess to care for the na­tion’s vet­er­ans.
