Readers’ picks for the top stories of 2011 revealed
If you’re a regular reader of this page, you know we’re always telling you what we think. But today, you’re telling us what you think—at least when it comes to the biggest healthcare stories of the past year. From Nov. 14 through Dec. 9, we asked our readers to vote for one of 10 stories selected by our editorial staff as making the biggest healthcare business and policy headlines in 2011. We also asked readers to suggest stories that didn’t make our list of 10. By a wide margin, the nearly 300 readers who took the poll voted the court battle over the legality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as the biggest story of the year. A distant second and third, respectively, were other key components of the controversial healthcare reform law: final regulations implementing Medicare’s accountable care organization program and final regulations implementing Medicare’s value-based purchasing system. We’ll be discussing these stories and more in an upcoming special year-in-review video feature to be posted on our website, Modernhealthcare.com. Both the reader poll and year-inreview video feature are sponsored by Stryker, the Kalamazoo, Mich.based medical technology company. Per editorial policy, sponsors are not involved in the development or publication of editorial content. Thank you for following all of our coverage of the industry this past year, and we look forward to serving all your news and information needs again in 2012.
