Conspiracy against healthcare
Re: “Senate OKS two-month freeze on doc pay,” Modernhealthcare.com, Dec. 20: Two months? Whoop de doo! I am with American Medical Association President Dr. Peter Carmel on this one. “Waiting until the final week of the legislative session to address an issue Congress knew about all year is no way to conduct business for the country.”
Whose idea of media and political manipulation is this? When we look at how many postings about this on all the healthcare rags and channels, there has to be someone behind the strategy to act this way and show the healthcare industry just how much we (don’t) value them and assume they will still be able to sustainably be open for business.
Many of my clients have asked me what to do. Many doctors’ office staff leave their jobs right after the office Christmas party when bonuses are handed out and it’s time for new healthcare deductibles on a health benefit plan. The docs are calling me and asking, “Should I replace the person who left? I can’t sustain the business if they cut our pay. I am already at about 83% overhead to gross.”
If that happens large-scale, the rift will ripple to unemployment, stifling job growth and making the case management and other aspects of patient-centered medical home and accountable care organizations fantasy.
As we say in the South, “All y’all that think we can do ACO and PCMH in the face of this pay here cut, I’ve got discount tickets for you to meet me at the Dumbo the Elephant ride in Fantasyland at Disney World.”
