John Wade, a former chairman of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s board of directors, died April 28 at his home in Overland Park, Kan. He was 71. Wade served as HIMSS board chair from July 2007 to June 2008. “We will remember him for his continuous commitment to HIMSS before, during and after his year as our board chair,” HIMSS President and CEO Stephen Lieber said in a statement. “He understood our cause and worked to improve healthcare delivery with the best use of information technology.” Wade was VP and CIO at St. Luke’s Health System, based in Kansas City, from 1993 to 2008 and also worked for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System, Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and Children’s Hospital Boston.
