John Wade, a for­mer chair­man of the Health­care In­for­ma­tion and Man­age­ment Sys­tems So­ci­ety’s board of di­rec­tors, died April 28 at his home in Over­land Park, Kan. He was 71. Wade served as HIMSS board chair from July 2007 to June 2008. “We will re­mem­ber him for his con­tin­u­ous com­mit­ment to HIMSS be­fore, dur­ing and af­ter his year as our board chair,” HIMSS Pres­i­dent and CEO Stephen Lieber said in a state­ment. “He un­der­stood our cause and worked to im­prove health­care de­liv­ery with the best use of in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy.” Wade was VP and CIO at St. Luke’s Health Sys­tem, based in Kansas City, from 1993 to 2008 and also worked for the Univer­sity of Alabama at Birm­ing­ham Health Sys­tem, North­west­ern Me­mo­rial Hospi­tal in Chicago and Chil­dren’s Hospi­tal Bos­ton.
