Re: the “Most prof­itable crit­i­cal-ac­cess hos­pi­tals,” (By The Num­bers, April 16, p. 31), it should be noted that all of the Wis­con­sin hos­pi­tals listed are part of larger or­ga­ni­za­tions. As such, the in­for­ma­tion on prof­itabil­ity re­ported in Medi­care cost re­ports is more likely re­flec­tive of the re­sults of that larger or­ga­ni­za­tion than from the in­di­vid­ual hospi­tal. Draw­ing any con­clu­sions from this chart about the prof­itabil­ity from the pro­vi­sion of pa­tient ser­vices at any of the in­di­vid­ual hos­pi­tals in­volved would be in­ap­pro­pri­ate.
