Emory University: Smartphones For Better Staff Communications & Patient Care
Emory University is using Amcom’s smartphone communication solution, Amcom Mobile Connect, to improve staff communication within the hospital. Amcom Mobile Connect simplifies the process of sending messages and tracking responses among smartphone-carrying staff for code alerts, patient updates, lab results, consult requests, and more. Emory chose Amcom Mobile Connect to integrate with its existing Amcom solutions for mission-critical communications throughout the organization. These span operator consoles, Web-based employee directory and on-call scheduling, emergency notification, and automated speech-based call processing. Of note is Emory’s success with Amcom’s emergency notification system, which has enabled it to reduce average heart attack treatment times to 54 minutes at one hospital location and 62 minutes at the other. With Amcom Mobile Connect, time-critical messages can now go to smartphones in addition to pagers and other devices, leveraging a single database for contact information across all solutions. Emory uses Amcom Mobile Connect to support its diverse user environment, which includes iphone ® ® , Android , and Blackberry ® smartphones as well as other devices. This is possible through Amcom Mobile Connect’s ability to deploy messages to any recipient based only on the phone number, regardless of device type and cellular carrier. This greatly simplifies the administration involved with communications and speeds interaction, keeping patient safety in the forefront. Amcom Mobile Connect also offers advanced functionality such as free-form text responses, message delivery confirmations, and a full audit trail. “To stay on the forefront of an increasingly mobile customer base, we need to introduce more feature-rich communication platforms. With Amcom Mobile Connect, users have accessibility to data, as well as an intuitive means of sending quick messages. Now we have a consolidated platform enabling users to stay mobilized, informed and connected.”
