Emory Univer­sity is us­ing Am­com’s smart­phone com­mu­ni­ca­tion so­lu­tion, Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect, to im­prove staff com­mu­ni­ca­tion within the hospi­tal. Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect sim­pli­fies the process of send­ing mes­sages and track­ing re­sponses among smart­phone-car­ry­ing staff for code alerts, pa­tient up­dates, lab re­sults, con­sult re­quests, and more. Emory chose Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect to in­te­grate with its ex­ist­ing Am­com so­lu­tions for mis­sion-crit­i­cal com­mu­ni­ca­tions through­out the or­ga­ni­za­tion. These span op­er­a­tor con­soles, Web-based em­ployee di­rec­tory and on-call sched­ul­ing, emer­gency no­ti­fi­ca­tion, and au­to­mated speech-based call pro­cess­ing. Of note is Emory’s suc­cess with Am­com’s emer­gency no­ti­fi­ca­tion sys­tem, which has en­abled it to re­duce av­er­age heart at­tack treat­ment times to 54 min­utes at one hospi­tal lo­ca­tion and 62 min­utes at the other. With Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect, time-crit­i­cal mes­sages can now go to smart­phones in ad­di­tion to pagers and other de­vices, lever­ag­ing a sin­gle data­base for con­tact in­for­ma­tion across all so­lu­tions. Emory uses Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect to sup­port its di­verse user en­vi­ron­ment, which in­cludes iphone ® ® , An­droid , and Black­berry ® smart­phones as well as other de­vices. This is pos­si­ble through Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect’s abil­ity to de­ploy mes­sages to any re­cip­i­ent based only on the phone num­ber, re­gard­less of de­vice type and cel­lu­lar car­rier. This greatly sim­pli­fies the ad­min­is­tra­tion in­volved with com­mu­ni­ca­tions and speeds in­ter­ac­tion, keep­ing pa­tient safety in the fore­front. Am­com Mo­bile Con­nect also of­fers ad­vanced func­tion­al­ity such as free-form text re­sponses, mes­sage de­liv­ery con­fir­ma­tions, and a full au­dit trail. “To stay on the fore­front of an in­creas­ingly mo­bile cus­tomer base, we need to in­tro­duce more fea­ture-rich com­mu­ni­ca­tion plat­forms. Now we have a con­sol­i­dated plat­form en­abling users to stay mo­bi­lized, in­formed and con­nected.”
