If you’re passionate about design …
If you’re feeling creative, over 18 and live in Los Angeles County, Out
liers has a project for you. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health last week launched the L.A.’S Next Sex Symbol contest, at lasexsymbol.com, to design a wrapper for, of course, an L.a.-branded condom. Funding comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as L.A. County. The winning 10 designs, to be chosen through a combination of online voting by the public and a panel of judges, will be featured on 1,000,001 condoms that will be given away in L.A. County this year as part of a public health campaign against sexually transmitted diseases. Why not just 1 million? The contest seems to be “facilitated” by One Condoms, the wholesaler for the county’s condom program, according to a news release from the health department.
So now that we’ve got that bit of branding out of the way, Outliers feels compelled to mention that you’ll have to put some brakes on your creativity: “Design submissions cannot infringe on trademarks, including Los Angeles sports teams or famous landmarks such as the Hollywood sign or the Los Angeles City Hall building. Entries that are considered obscene or vulgar will also be disqualified,” according to the release. Outliers wonders if the Kardashians count as a famous landmark.
Although considering the tagline for the campaign is “Show us your package,” double-entendres are in. Submissions are due June 17, with winners to be announced June 27.
L.A. County wants your design ideas.
